VTU launches MEMS course

Belgaum: The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in collaboration with Indian Institute of Science (IISc.,), Bangalore, has started a short-term course on Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) for the benefit of VTU affiliated engineering colleges in Belgaum and Gulbarga regions.

Scientist V.K. Atre inaugurated the programme here on Monday. Mr. Atre said novel technologies and applications are spreading in all fields of engineering. Expectations and needs for engineering applications have increased tremendously and the prospects of micro and smart technologies to achieve them are promising.

MEMS is an enabling technology allowing the development of smart products, augmenting the computational ability of microelectronics with perception and control capabilities of micro sensors and micro actuators and expanding the space of possible designs and applications.

S. Mohan, Professor in the Department of Instrumentation and Chief Executive, Society for Innovation and Development at IISc., was the guest of honour.

VTU Vice-Chancellor K. Balaveera Reddy presided over the function.

Registrar (Evaluation) V. Sridhar was present.
