Bangalore: For the north Indian community and those from the northern districts of the State, it was Holi on Tuesday and for some, on Wednesday too. A splash of colours is the main event of this festival of spring. Over the years, people have become conscious about using safe and eco-friendly colours as many colours may contain some chemicals that could be harmful. In parts of Karnataka, Holi goes by the name of Kamana Habba, when the God of Love was burnt from the third eye of Shiva, who later relents and resurrects him. In colleges, hostels and some residential apartments and colonies, at least the young people celebrate the occasion. They splash "gulal" and other colours on each other with glee. For many it is also an occasion for extended families to get together and enjoy. Sweets flavoured with crushed poppy seeds are also favoured by some celebrants.
