Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Cable reform

The incisive editorial, "An opportunity for cable reform" (March 15), is timely. It is another wake-up call to the authorities. As rightly pointed out, the growth of the industry has been rather amorphous. Enjoying monopoly in their self-assigned areas, cable television operators have become a law unto themselves. Reining them in is an urgent need, as there is no grievance redress mechanism at present.

One expects better quality of service in the private sector due to competition but cable operators have proved the expectation wrong by their monopolistic collusion.
