Bellary, Koppal to come under Dharwad Circuit Bench

BANGALORE: The State Government has decided to include the Bellary-Koppal area under the Circuit Bench of the High Court to be set up in Dharwad.

Advocates from Bellary and Koppal had staged a protest against the decision to include their districts under the Gulbarga Circuit Bench saying that they will have to cover a long distance to reach Gulbarga.

The advocates had requested the State Government as well as the High Court to attach the areas coming under Bellary-Koppal to the principal seat of the High Court in Bangalore if not to the Circuit Bench in Dharwad, it is said.

Dharwad Bar Association president B.D. Hiremath told The Hindu on Wednesday that he had written to the Government in this regard.

He said the Government has accepted their demand to attach Bellary and Koppal to the Dharwad Bench. He said the matter has now been placed before the Chief Justice of the High Court and is awaiting his approval.
