HIGHER EDUCATION in Australia has always attracted big student crowds in Bangalore. And so it was on Wednesday, as representatives from 32 Australian universities landed in the city scouting for students. The representatives helped the students in choosing the right course, in going through the complex application procedures and in availing student related services. Engineering and Management courses were once again the most sought after courses. But there were many students interested in Law, Hotel Management, Advertising and Public Relations, Hospitality, Arts, Visual and Performing Arts. Among the institutions that turned up for the Bangalore leg of International Development Programme (IDP) Education Australia fair were: The Australian National University, University of Canberra, Charles Sturt University, Macquarie University, The University of New South Wales, The University of Sydney, University of Ballarat, University of Technology Sydney, University of Wollongong, Charles Darwin University, Bond University, Griffith University, James Cook University, Shafston International University, The Universities of Queensland, Southern Queensland, Adelaide, South Australia, Melbourne, Tasmania, Monash University, Melbourne Institute of Technology and the Curtin University of Technology. For Indian students, IDP Education Australia had some good news: Four students from the country will be selected for Peace Scholarships, sponsored by the Government of the Australian State of Queensland. The scholarships are worth about 88,000 Australian Dollars.
Vice-Chancellor feted
M.S. THIMMAPPA, WHO laid down his office as the Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, was felicitated by the office-bearers and members of the non-teaching employees association. Also honoured was the Acting Vice-Chancellor B.G. Sudha. Mr. Thimmappa said the developed work of the university was because of the complete participation and active help of all the employees of the varsity.
Classes
THE BANGALORE University has announced the dates for contact classes for students registered under the correspondence courses offered by the varsity's Directorate of Correspondence Courses and Distance Education. For students of 1st year M.A. History, the classes will be held at the Department of History, Jnanabharathi campus, from April 3 to 23. For 2nd year M.A. History, the classes will be conducted at the same venue between March 15 and April 2. For 1st and 2nd year M.A. Political Science, the classes will be at the Department of Political Science, from April 12 to 28. For 1st and 2nd year M.A. Philosophy students, the venue will be the Directorate of Correspondence Courses, Central College. The classes for them will be conducted from April 1 to 10.
Exhibition
School of Audio Engineering (SAE), the media education college, will showcase the works of its students from all its campuses in Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi, at Ashirwad, off St. Mark's Road, Bangalore, on March 18. The presentation of students' works will be followed by a discussion on animation and filmmaking. SAE runs specialised courses in the field of Audio Engineering, Animation/Games Designing and Digital Film Making. SAE has an exclusive affiliation with the Middlesex University, London.
