Ushering in summer
PUSHPA CHARI
An exhibition of designer clothes presented by `Weavers Studio' of Kolkata, is on at Collage, Angson Centre, Greams Road, (Ph: 2829 1443).
Intricate weave, brilliantly executed craft such as block print, kantha, zari, appliqué, tie and die and the mellow magic of vegetable dyes meld with contemporary design inputs to create a collage of muted fashion statements.
Weavers Studio operates in the far flung corners of the country with handloom and craft. It also runs its own weaving centre along with tailoring, hand block printing, tie and dye craft, shibori, vegetable dye and embroidery units.
Top Japanese and American designers as well as retailers in South Africa, Italy, Germany and Alaska showcase Weavers Studio's plain and embellished fabric.
Superbly crafted
The collection at Collage is light, summery and superbly crafted. Mull, mutka, silk, tussar, cotton and crepe lend their lightweight, breezy feel to a range of tops, kurti trouser sets, salwar kameez ensembles, jackets, short kurta and dupatta sets and jewel coloured stoles.
A range of white and beige kurtis and tops featuring self-coloured embroidery make cool summer statements.
The kantha embroidery in a range of white and beige kurtas adds elegance to the collection.
Block prints have been cleverly used to create rich yet unfussy salwar kurta ensembles which are perfect evening wear.
