ANANTAPUR: Seven persons, all relatives, were killed and two others were injured when a cement-laden lorry ran over them near Thimmampeta village on Garladinne mandal on NH-7 in the district around midnight on Wednesday. According to police, the family of one Narappa of Guntakal and their relatives, 30 in all, were on way to Gugudu in Narpala mandal in the district. As the lorry in which they were travelling broke down near Thimmampeta, they resorted to cooking on the roadside when the the cement-laden lorry coming from Kurnool ran over them killing four women and two men on the spot. One boy succumbed to injuries in the hospital. Speed of the lorry was so high that a few bodies were mashed into pieces of flesh.
Names of victims
Those killed on the spot were Narappa (60), Adilaxmi (40), Ananthamma (50), Sudharani (30), Parvathamma (30) and Sriramulu (45). Surendra (14) succumbed to injuries in the General Hospital here. Laxminarayana and Nagalaxmi were also admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.
Driver arrested
Anantapur DSP G.S. Karunakar and other police officials visited the accident site and supervised the rescue measures. The lorry driver was arrested and the vehicle seized by the Garladinne police.
