SSLC Kannada exam cancelled at Gudur centre

Vigilance squad finds students copying en masse

    BIJAPUR: The SSLC Board on Thursday cancelled the Kannada language examination at the Gudur centre in Hungund taluk of Bagalkot district in the wake of examination malpractices.

    A vigilance squad headed by Chief Executive Officer of the Bagalkot Zilla Panchayat V. Ponnuraj found students copying en masse at the Ishwarsa Khode High School centre with the support of the local people even as invigilators and policemen posted there remained mute spectators.

    Tension prevailed when Mr. Ponnuraj and the team members tried to bring order.

    The people gathered there threatened them with dire consequences if they initiated any action. More policemen were rushed to the centre.

    Education Commissioner Madan Gopal and the SSLC Board cancelled the examination based on the recommendations of Mr. Ponnuraj.

    Tight security

    Mr. Ponnuraj said the examination scheduled for Friday will be held at the centre with tight security.

    The Kannada language examination for the students of the centre will be on Sunday, he added.

    Meanwhile, sources said that the authorities are likely to book criminal cases against those who had intimidated the officials. The invigilators of the centre have requested the authorities to shift them to other centres as they are working under threat.

    However, they will be relieved only after a departmental inquiry, the sources added. No such incident has been reported from other parts of the district.
