CHENNAI: The Swami Sivananda Statue Installation Committee, headed by Dr. K.P. Mishra, Cardiologist, met recently, to elect a permanent executive committee, to get the land back in order to install a bronze replica of Swami Sivananda, before his 119th birth anniversary on September 8. N.S. Rao, a member of the Divine Life Society, said that the statue was installed on the Corporation land, allotted by the State Government to the Society, through G.O. Ms. No. 762, dated September 30, 1988.
`Restore land'
The members of the Committee urge the Vice-Chancellor, University of Madras, S.P. Thyagarajan, to restore the land "taken away without observing the formalities that a civilised society expects, and without any valid reason and justification for his unfortunate action." The Committee resolved to seek the intervention of the Chancellor of the University and the Governor of Tamil Nadu and the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, for the restoration of the "status quo ante," in respect of nearly 700 sq.ft. land in the area.
