Back Kochi port strike called off

Kochi, March 18

The Cochin Port Staff Association has called off its two-day old strike on Friday following a conciliation meeting held between the port management and a representative of the union in the presence of the Regional Labour Commissioner.

The port management in a statement issued here said that the union has regretted its conduct and offered to withdraw the strike "unconditionally" and the port on its part has agreed to withdraw suspension orders after observing the formalities as per the rules. The days of strike will be treated as dies-non and the port will, however, continue its policy of taking strict action to curb indiscipline, the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Cochin Port Employees Organisation belonging to CITU has served a notice for an indefinite strike from March 31 against the anti-labour action of the port management banning trade union rights and taking vindictive actions against recognised trade union leaders and activists.
