MULKANOOR (KARIMNAGAR DT): Chief Minister Y. S. Rajashekhara Reddy's announcement of executing the Gouravelli reservoir on the ambitious SRSP flood flow canal project in Husnabad region in district, has touched the hearts of the people. Amid cheers from the farming community, the Chief Minister said that he would take measures for calling tenders for execution of the Gouravelli project at the earliest. The construction of the project would ensure irrigation sources to the upland Indurthi and Huzurabad Assembly segments.
Golden Jubilee celebrations
Addressing an impressive gathering at the Mulkanoor Cooperative Rural Bank and Marketing Society Golden Jubilee celebrations here on Sunday, Mr. Reddy reiterated that he was committed for the development of Telangana region by providing water to each and every village by lifting the Godavari waters. Recalling his padayatra of 2003, which passed through the upland regions of Indurthi, Husnabad regions, he said that the SRSP flood flow canal project was the heartbeat of the people. He said that the Government had also taken up the flood flow canal and was taking measures for its early completion. He also said that they would take up the ambitious Pranahita to Chevella lift irrigation project on a priority basis for the transformation of Telangana region.
Tribal welfare
He alleged that the TDP Government during its 10-year regime had neglected the irrigation projects and also other sectors. He said that the Government had taken up the Jalayagnam programme only to eradicate drought from the State with the construction of all irrigation projects. Lauding the Mulkanoor Cooperative Rural Bank movement for upliftment of farmers of the region, he attributed the success of the bank to its discipline and dedication. He also urged the bank authorities to provide loans for fixing capacitors to agricultural pump sets in the region. He also ruled out constitution of ITDA in plain areas of the district and assured all-round development of the tribals by taking up several developmental programmes under the Remote and Interior Areas Development (RIAD) scheme. Peddapalli MP G, Venkatswamy urged the Mulkanoor bank authorities to extend their operational area to entire district and benefit the farming community. Earlier, the Chief Minister along with other leaders launched the golden jubilee celebrations of the bank by unveiling a pylon. He also garlanded the statue of the founder-president A. Vishwanatha Reddy. The Minister for Major Irrigation Ponnala Laxmaiah, the ZP chairman K. V. Rajeshwara Rao, MLAs V. Lakshmikantha Rao, Chada Venkat Reddy, T. Jeevan Reddy, J. Ratnakara Rao, the bank president A. Praveen Reddy and others were also present.
