A case of fence eating crop?

Sir, — Policemen are appointed to protect the people from criminal activities. Unfortunately, the recent raids by Lokayukta revealed that five police officials had allegedly amassed wealth to the tune of Rs. 60 crores. They deserve to be severely punished. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has promised corruption-free governance and hence the Government should confiscate the ill-gotten wealth of the guilty.

Metro Rail a burden

Sir, — There is no guarantee that the Metro Rail project will be a panacea for all traffic woes of Bangaloreans. A commuter desires a cheap and quick transport system. Some residents and traders have started staging protests against the Metro Rail alignment as it will hit them hard. The project will place additional burden on taxpayers, besides causing power shortage. Other public transport modes such as Elevated Light Rail Transport System (ELRTS), mono rail and flyovers will help ease traffic congestion, save fuel cost and minimise environment hazards.

More bus services

Sir, — Now that the autorickshaw fares have been increased by 20 per cent making it difficult for the common people, I request Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) to introduce mini-bus services to cover every nook and corner of the city and also to and from railway stations and bus stands with luggage carrying facility. This will help commuters. If BMTC is not in a position to provide such services immediately, the Government should ask private operators to organise it.

Power cuts

Sir, — Those residing between Eighth Cross to 80 ft Road on 11th Main Road, HAL II Stage, Indira Nagar, face frequent power cuts four or five times a day for about four to five hours. The situation aggravates in summer when the frequency increases. However, there is no such problem for residents of First Cross to Seventh Cross of the same 11th Main Road. Power disruption affects senior citizens and school and college students. Bangalore Electricity Supply Company authorities are requested to end these power cuts.

Nuisance

Sir, — Roadside eateries in and around J.P. Nagar, 24th Main Road, Jayanagar IV Block, and IV "T" Block have been causing inconvenience to residents of the area. People, who eat there, park their vehicles haphazardly on the roads affecting vehicular movement. Secondly, the waste is thrown on the road attracting stray dogs and cattle. The public should behave with social responsibility. The authorities can also issue some guidelines to create awareness among people.
