Letters to the Editor
Every dawn meets its dusk. This was illustrated in the unceremonious exit of Verghese Kurien, milkman of India, as Chairman of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation. Dr. Kurien was the driving force behind the dairy movement in Anand, Gujarat. Amul is a household name in India and bears testimony to the success story of the cooperative movement. Dr. Kurien emancipated dairy farmers from the clutches of poverty to get them a fair deal for their produce. In the twilight of his career, he deserved better.
Yasmin Banu,
The father of White Revolution quitting his post is indeed a sad episode. He was the architect of Operation Flood largest dairy development programme in the world and made India the largest milk producer in the world. He nurtured Amul for 34 years making it a widely popular brand. His exit is a major jolt to the revolution he pioneered.
