PATNA: The one-man FM station, Radio Mansoorpur 1, which created waves in Bihar's Vaishali district in recent months, was shut down as it was found that it was being run "illegally." Officials of the Union Communication Ministry raided the village on Sunday night and shut down the station, run by Raghav Mahto from his hut, depriving the villagers of their only source of entertainment. The officials seized the equipment, but let Mr. Mahto off after he undertook not to run the station in future, officials said.
Vaishali district magistrate Sanjeev Hans told PTI that the owner did not have any licence mandatory under the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885. Mahto, an illiterate, started the venture four years ago with a mere investment of Rs. 50. PTI
