Patil's assurance to SSB jawans

NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Monday assured jawans of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) that the new pension rules of 2004 would not affect their pension prospects as they would be put in a separate category like the Armed Forces.

Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the Raising Day of the SSB, Mr. Patil said the police and the paramilitary forces would receive the same treatment which the Armed Forces will be getting.

"Whatever facilities are being received by the Armed Forces would also be given to the SSB personnel," said the Home Minister, adding that the Ministry was aware of the concerns and doubts expressed and raised by all the paramilitary forces and efforts were on to iron them out.

Earlier, SSB Director Gen. Tilak Kak expressed concern over the new pension rules while addressing his officers and jawans.

The Home Minister also presented President's Police Medal posthumously to Assistant Commander, Charu Chandra Pathak, who was killed in a terrorist attack in Srinagar on April 23, 2004.
