Course for tutors to cope with wards' learning disabilities

Special Correspondent

The course commences on April 17

CHENNAI: Though Chennai has been a pioneer in the field of special education for several years, the shortage of trained and committed professionals has remained an impediment. The problem is accentuated by the fact that teaching children with disabilities involves effort and is time-intensive.

However, school teachers and parents are now sensitive to the problem of learning difficulties and willing to seek professional help.

`Diksa,' a centre set up by Sudha Ganesh to help children with learning disabilities through one-to-one remedial programmes in reading, writing, spelling and arithmetic, offers a one-month tutor training course to help teachers gather specific skills to teach children with learning difficulties.

`Diksa' has announced its third tutor training course. This one-month course includes classroom inputs, observation of actual remedial work and hands-on training in remedial teaching.

Upon successful completion, teachers can work in a full-time remedial school or take up one-to-one remedial work from home after adequate on-the-job training and guidance.

The course commences on April 17, 2006.
