Tamil Nadu - Chennai

Court directive

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed the Director-General of Police to take an appropriate decision on recognising the Tamil Nadu Police Constabulary Association within eight weeks, after meeting its chief K. Sivakumar on March 31. The First Bench comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice Prabha Sridevan gave the direction on Monday, after Mr. Sivakumar, presently a Grade I police constable attached to the Government Estate Police Station here, moved the court stating that his leave application was rejected on the day he was to meet the DGP. He prayed for a direction to the Government to grant approval and recognition to the proposed association.

Recording a statement by the Government Pleader that the petitioner would be granted personal hearing by the DGP on March 31, the Bench said he must be sanctioned leave on that day so that he could appear before the competent authority.
