A low key start to Beighton Cup

KOLKATA : The Indian Oil 111th all-India Beighton Cup hockey tournament got off to a low key start with four local teams fighting it out in the first round here on Tuesday.

With the big guns expected to boom later this week, Students' AC put it past Calcutta Parsee Club 2-0, while Khalsa Blues downed Hockey Training Centre by a solitary goal.

Faraz Zafar's penalty stroke put Students ahead in the 29th minute and N. Daniel consolidated the lead with a penalty corner conversion 40 minutes later.

Niral Bhengra's penalty corner goal in the 63rd minute was Khalsa's lone success. — Special Correspondent
