Back Reliance Info upgrades roaming

Reliance Infocomm has launched an international roaming service which will enable its customers to use their own telephone number to roam across GSM and CDMA networks. The inter-standard roaming service is the first to be offered by any operator in the country, said a news release from the company.

Earlier, customers would have to get their calls forwarded when they travelled from a CDMA to a GSM network, as well as the other way around. Also their caller line identification of such a customer would not be the same as his/own Reliance number. The new service does away with these inconveniences.

However, the new service entails a change of handset. The customer has to get a SIM card and a GSM handset for roaming into GSM networks. A CDMA handset will allow him to roam into CDMA networks. Reliance Infocomm is calling this its `1World.1Number' service.
