Jammu: Angry at the rejection of his request for leave, a CRPF jawan shot dead three of his colleagues on Monday near the official residence of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad here, before being overpowered. Mr. Azad and his wife Shamima were present in the house when the jawan opened fire around 8 p.m., official sources said. As part of the security ring, CRPF jawans are deployed on the outer periphery of the house. After an altercation with the CRPF inspector on the issue of his leave, the jawan, who hails from Chhapra in Bihar, fired around 12 rounds from his service rifle, killing the inspector and two constables on the spot. After the shooting, he tried to escape, but was overpowered and arrested, the sources said.
Second incident
This is the second such incident in the State in the past month. An Army jawan, whose leave plea too was turned down, shot dead five of his colleagues in the Kashmir valley in March. PTI
