NEW DELHI: The Delhi BJP Legislature Party under the leadership of Jagdish Mukhi on Monday petitioned the Assembly Speaker, Chaudhary Prem Singh, demanding disqualification of MLAs who had availed of or were availing of various perks and facilities under the "office of profit" definition in the Capital. The BJP MLA from Saket, Vijay Jolly, has already filed a petition with President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam seeking disqualification of 19 legislators for holding offices of profit during their present tenure as MLAs. Mr. Mukhi led a delegation to the Speaker at Old Secretariat even though the Speaker has a very limited role to play in this affair. The delegation submitted a list of MLAs including the Chief Minister's Parliament Secretary, Nasib Singh, former Minister and Chairman of the Trans-Yamuna Development Board, Narendra Nath, Chairman of Delhi Wakf Board Mateen Ahmed and Chairman of the Delhi State Cooperative Bank and of the District Development Committee, Bijendra Singh.
Assurance given
The Speaker assured the delegation that he would take appropriate action on the petition submitted by them after consulting legal experts.
