Accident triggers protest

BANGALORE: Students of S.J. Polytechnic on Thursday resorted to a snap stir and blocked the road following a road accident involving a BMTC bus and a two-wheeler, on which a student was riding, on Seshadri Road.

Police said that around 10.30 a.m., a student of S.J. Polytechnic, who was riding the two-wheeler, hit the rear portion of the bus near the Maharani's College and fell on the road.

The bus driver, who was reportedly unaware of the collision, sped away.

As the driver did not stop the bus, angry students blocked Seshadri Road and staged a demonstration demanding action against him. Following the protest, vehicular movement on Seshadri Road and near K.R. Circle was affected for some time.

When senior police officials visited the spot, the students complained to them of "reckless" driving of BMTC buses. They requested the officials to provide better pedestrian facilities near the college and to construct a foot-over bridge.

The students withdrew the protest after the officials assured them that their demands will be considered. The student, who was injured in the accident, has been admitted to a private hospital, the police said.

Subsequently, the Ulsoor Gate traffic police intercepted the bus and seized it.
