BANGALORE: A 14-year-old boy was run over by a lorry near Dasara Mantapa Maidan in J.C. Nagar police station limits on Saturday, according to the police. The police, who gave the name of the victim as Mohammed Abbas (14), said he was playing near the maidan where a compound wall was being built. The lorry, which arrived there with construction material, ran him over while reversing after unloading the material. Abbas, son of a petty merchant in R.T. Nagar, died on the spot. Following the accident, residents staged a protest demanding immediate payment of compensation to the victim's family. The residents withdrew the protest after the police assured them of action.
Leopard run over
A nine-month-old leopard was run over by a vehicle near Daremara village in Ramanagaram taluk on Bangalore-Mysore Road on Saturday. The carcass was buried on Sunday.
Man dies
A 70-year-old man was killed after he was hit by a van near Raghavendra Swamy Temple in Peenya police station limits on Sunday. The police gave the name of the dead as Kenchappa from Madhugiri and said he was visiting his daughter here. He had gone out for work when the accident occurred, they said.
