NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) proposes a uniform academic calendar for universities across the country. It has circulated the draft regulation among all universities for feedback. If introduced, the calendar will ensure that the universities follow a uniform admission schedule for their courses and declare examination results at the same time. The recommendations of a committee set up by the UGC to look at the feasibility of a uniform calendar were placed before the Commission at a mid-February meeting. "A uniform academic calendar will enable deserving students to migrate to a better university. Students in many State universities often lose out on admission to a better university if their results are late. Although the emphasis is on examination and results, the proposal will eventually impact admissions in a big way if implemented,'' said a senior Delhi University official. Authorities in Central universities feel that a uniform calendar will help to overcome the problem of delayed results many universities face today. In Delhi University, students raised the issue last year and it set up a committee on examination reforms.
