Forgery charge

The cyber cell of the Central Crime Branch has arrested a Hyderabad-based person for allegedly withdrawing money using forged demand drafts.

According to the police, Rahim Khan and his associate drew two DDs — one for Rs. 1,000 and another for Rs. 500 — from the Lakshmi Vilas Bank's Vellore branch on April 10. The police said the duo `altered' the DDs.

On April 11, the accused presented a Rs. 2.30-lakh DD at the UTI Bank in Chennai for clearance.

Subsequently, a Rs. 3.80-lakh DD was also submitted for clearance at the bank , where the accused Rahim had an account.

Bank officials grew suspicious after the second DD was submitted. They informed the police who froze the account. By the time, the duo had withdrawn Rs. 80,000 from an ATM.

The police later traced Rahim Khan to Hyderabad and arrested him. They were on the lookout for his associate.
