Bhavana upsets Rachita

BANGALORE : Sixth-seeded Bhavana Suresh of Andhra Pradesh beat third-seeded Rachita Sarda of Karnataka 7-5, 6-4 to move into the girls' semifinals of the Malleswaram Association AITA champion series (under-14) tennis tournament at the Malleswaram Association courts here on Wednesday.

In another upset, Ravina Shetty ousted the fourth seed M.P. Nitha 6-3, 6-4.

Top-seeded Sharon Paul and Sansitha Nandakumar posted easy wins in the other quarterfinal ties.

The results: Boys (quarterfinals): Rashien Samuel (Kar) bt Chirag S. Igoor (Kar) 6-3, 6-1; C.M. Kiran (Kar) bt Rohan Gaonkar (Kar) 6-3, 6-4; R. Ramkumar (TN) bt M. Monish Rajer (TN) 6-0, 6-3; Vinod Gowda (Kar) bt Ishwar Prasad (TN) 6-4, 6-1.

Doubles: Semifinals: R. Ram Kumar & Sai B. bt C.M. Kiran & Chirag S. Uigoor 6-1,6-1; K. Ajay Srinivas & S.D. Jayaraj Prasanna (TN) bt Rashien Samuel & Ishwar Prasad (TN) 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 (tie-break).

Badminton camp

The Karnataka Badminton Association will conduct a badminton coaching camp from May 1 to 24. The 21-day camp will be held from 11 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and from 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. and is open to non-members also.

Interested candidates can register their names along with a fee of Rs. 1,400. Further details can be had from the KBA office, No. 4, Jasma Bhavan Road, Bangalore, Ph: 22263686, 22254756 or 22254760.

Meanwhile, the KBA will also have a swimming camp at its indoor pool from May 1 to 24. The fee for members is Rs. 1,000, while it will be Rs. 1,200 for non-members.
