Ram Navami celebrations end on a colourful note

CHENNAI: Four-year-old G. Abhaya as Krishna was oblivious to the attention showered by the `Gopikas' during a dance sequence based on the theme song `Adugiran Kannan.'

Children from the Perambur branch of Maithree were photographed repeatedly, but the students of the Tambaram branch of the school received maximum applause for their `Arre' song from Chandramukhi.

The valedictory of the 53rd Ram Navami celebration held in West Mambalam concluded with a programme for special children from the five branches of Maithree. Parents and students participated in fancy dress contest and danced to songs from popular films such as Vaanathaipola.

Kanchi Acharya Jayendra Saraswathi blessed the children.

R. Narasimman, head of the Respiratory Research Foundation of India, K. Vijhayan, workmen director of UCO Bank and Priya Rajkumar, coordinating committee member of Maithree spoke. Deepan Arunachalam regaled the children with mimicry of singers such as M.S. Subbulakshmi, M.L. Vasanthakumari and actors `Sivaji' Ganesan, Manorama and V.K. Ramasami.
