CHENNAI: The All-India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA), which has completed 60 years of service, will celebrate its founding day on April 20. According to general secretary C.H. Venkatachalam, the main aim of the association was to bring bank employees together under a strong union; fight for improvement of wages and service conditions; and demand nationalisation of banks so that people's money was used for their welfare. The AIBEA planned to conduct medical camps for the poor, donate medicines to hospitals, register eye-donation wills, extend financial assistance to orphanages, old age homes and other social organisations, supply books and uniform to the poor students. Nearly, Rs. 1.20 crore was collected from the employees as contribution, and the money was used for constructing a hospital and a colony of houses for the poor affected by the tsunami in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.
