Variety in mid-day meals menu
Our Bureau
New Delhi, April 20
In a bid to popularise the mid-day meal (MDM) scheme aimed at promoting elementary education, several States have decided to introduce variety in menu, switching over from the traditional daliya/khichdi (combination of rice and cereals) for children. Some of the states have already introduced eggs and fruits in the menu. This was discussed at a two-day meeting of the Programme Approval Board of the MDM. During the meetings, States presented their plans to provide varied and wholesome food and involve grassroot organisations, HRD Ministry sources said adding states have also shown their commitment to higher allocation from their own resources.
