Four persons hurt in road accident

BANGALORE: Four persons, including a woman and her two daughters, were injured when a car hit a motorcycle and pedestrians near Police Thimmaiah Circle in the early hours of Friday.

On being alerted by an autorickshaw driver, the police intercepted the car at Sadashivanagar and arrested its driver, who sped away after the accident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-East) M. Abdullah Saleem told presspersons that around 6 a.m. a car with Andhra Pradesh registration, which came from CTO Circle, rammed a motorcycle going towards the Vidhana Soudha.

Subsequently, the car hit Yashoda Bai and her two daughters Kavitha (18) and Sabitha (16), residents of Income Tax Colony on Infantry Road, who were going to the Cubbon Park for a walk.

Following the collision with the motorcycle, the car's number plate broke into three pieces and fell on the road.

Police alerted

An autorickshaw driver Shabeer Ahmed put together the pieces of the number plate, noted down the registration number and alerted the Police Control Room. Shabeer Ahmed rushed the injured motorcyclist Sunil Francis (25), Yashoda Bai and Sabitha to a private hospital in his autorickshaw.

He sent Kavitha in another autorickshaw to the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, Mr. Saleem explained.

After a message was flashed on the wireless, a traffic sub-inspector and a constable, who were on their way to attend the Friday Parade, intercepted the car at Sadashivanagar and arrested the driver Sreenivasulu (25).

On a complaint by Francis, the Cubbon Park traffic police have registered a case against Sreenivasulu.

While Francis suffered head and shoulder injuries, Yashoda Bai fractured both her legs. Kavitha suffered a fracture in her right leg.

All of them are out of danger, Mr. Saleem said.

Appreciating Shabeer Ahmed's work, the Commissioner of Police Ajai Kumar Singh gave him a certificate and a cash reward a press conference.

The two policemen, who intercepted the car and arrested the driver, were also rewarded.
