BJP members demand immediate arrest of corporator M. Srinivasa

BANGALORE: The Kamakshipalya police have registered a case against the Industrial Town ward corporator M. Srinivasa and his supporters on charges of assaulting the former corporator Gangabhyraiah and his supporters near the Gangamma Thimmaiah Choultry in Basaveshwaranagar on Friday.

The police said the incident occurred when Mayor Mumtaz Begum, accompanied by Mr. Srinivasa and officials of the BMP, went to inspect the Ambedkar Stadium constructed by the BMP.

Mr. Gangabhyraiah came there with his supporters and asked the Mayor to get the stadium inaugurated.

Mr. Gangabhyraiah and his men had come to the venue to protest the delay in opening the stadium. While submitting a memorandum, Mr. Gangabhyraiah and his supporters had a war of words with Mr. Srinivasa and his men, which later led to they being assaulted, the police said. A group of BJP members led by Mr. Gangabhyraiah has demanded that Mr. Srinivasa be immediately arrested.

"We did not raise any slogans or create a scene. We wore black badges to protest the delay in the opening of the stadium. Though the Mayor, Deputy Mayor M. Lakshminarayana and Rajajinagar MLA N.L. Narendra Babu were present on the spot, they did nothing to stop Mr. Srinivasa from misbehaving. We have registered a police complaint in this regard and demand that Mr. Srinivasa should be immediately arrested," Mr Gangabhyraiah pointed out.
