Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 11 contract labourers who were working on the premises of Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Sreekariyam, were admitted to Medical College Hospital on Monday following symptoms of food poisoning. The labourers, who hail from Payattuvila near Balaramapuram, were rushed to the hospital following vomiting after having lunch from a hotel at Sreekariyam junction. All the 11 were admitted to Ward 2 of the hospital. Those admitted were Biju (25), Rathesh (24), Arun (21), Sunil Kumar (28), Rahul (18), Jagadesh Kumar (27), Ajayakumar (39), Biju (21), Deepu (17), Joy (30), Krishnakumar (29). The Sreekariyam police have registered a case against the hotel.
Arrested
The Thumba police have arrested a 19-year-old youth in connection with the hurling of country bombs on NH 47 Bypass near Kulathoor in January. According to the police, the youth, Sivaprasad, a resident of Kunjalamood, was arrested on Sunday night. He was produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate II on Monday and remanded.
