MUMBAI: Pawan Surya bounced back after a first set loss to qualifier Karan Avlani in a boys under-14 second round match before steadying himself over the next two for an imposing 0-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory for a place in the quarterfinals of the Asian junior ranking tennis tournament. Shahbaaz Khan's straight set win over fourth seed Kunal Anand set the unseeded local lad on course for a quarterfinal tie against fifth seed Sumeet Shinde, who was stretched to the decider by Abhishek S.V. at the Ranade Tennis Centre. The girls' under-14 second round matches ended inside two sets, Ashwarya Agarwal and Kyra Shroff cruising into the quarterfinals without dropping a game. Top seeds Arvind Fernando and Rashmi Teltumde worked themselves into form on the second day.
