BANGALORE: A six-member dacoit gang took away Rs. 70,000 in cash and valuables valued at Rs. 3 lakh from a house in Byatarayanapura Police Station limits in the early hours of Sunday, the police said.

According to the police, the dacoits entered the house of Shivaraj (65), a retired bank manager, located on the first floor of a building at Ideal Home Township around 2 a.m. by breaking open the main door.

They threatened Shivaraj and his wife and assaulted them before tying them up with ropes. Then they took away the cash and gold jewellery, the police said.

The couple's three sons live elsewhere. Though a student lives on the second floor, he was asleep when the incident occurred.

A dog squad was pressed into service.

Fingerprint experts visited the scene of offence. Senior police officers too visited the spot.
