Staff Correspondent

Based on `Dilli Haat', it will encourage weavers, artisans and village industries

Belgaum: Belgaum is among the few districts in the State where the Government has decided to establish "Urban Haat" on the lines of "Dilli Haat" with an objective of encouraging weavers, artisans and village industries.

According to sources here on Monday, the Union Government will contribute 70 per cent of the Rs. 2 crore to be spent on establishing the "haat".

The State Government, voluntary organisations, local agencies and other corporations will share the balance amount.

The district administration has identified land to set up the "haat" in the city.

Facilities

The facilities to be provided will include a commercial complex with stalls, space and platform for organising arts, cultural and other shows.

In fact, "Urban Haat" will symbolise socio-economic and cultural aspects of the district, while facilitating exposure to larger market and potential outlet for handicrafts and products manufactured in village/cottage industries.

The Government has ensured participation of voluntary organisations, private institutions, semi-government and others in the project.

Promising artisans capable of investing on their own can benefit from the "haat".

For more details, those interested may contact the Joint Director of District Industries Centre at Udyambag.
