BELLARY: The simmering differences between the coalition partners, Janata Dal (Secular) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in Bellary district came to the fore with N. Suryanarayan Reddy, Kurgodu MLA, taking exception to the style of functioning of the BJP here on Monday.

Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy recently stated that there were differences between the coalition partners in Bellary district and he would take steps to resolve them.

Citing several instances, Mr. Suryanarayan Reddy told presspersons here that the BJP had been trying to tarnish the image of the Janata Dal (S). Sriramulu of the BJP had been included in the Ministry and had been made in-charge of the district. Of the eight seats, the BJP and the Janata Dal (S) had bagged three each and the Congress won two seats.

No invitations were being extended to the Janata Dal (S) leaders to government-sponsored functions organised in his constituency. On several occasions, the BJP leaders had laid the foundation stones for which he had already laid, he said.

He alleged that the BJP had been trying to politicise issues such as drinking water shortage. As the head of the task force committee, he had included Shankarbanda as one of the villages facing drinking water problem and approved works to be taken up there to ease the crisis. Even after two months, funds had not been released for the works, and the Minister had visited the village many times and assured the people of providing water through tankers.

Mr. Reddy took exception to BJP district unit president Janardhan Reddy participating in the officials' meeting chaired by the district in-charge Minister at the Deputy Commissioner's office recently. No elected representatives were informed about the meeting, he alleged.

Mr. Reddy accused the BJP leaders of forcing the executive engineer of no. 6 canal division to hand over charge despite the Chief Minister staying the transfer order in view of the canal repair work.
