Institute of IT law to be constituted

It will offer facilities for training and research on all aspects of cyber laws

Institute will be established in Bangalore

It will also organise seminars, workshops and lectures

BANGALORE: An International Institute of Information Technology Law for training and research in IT law will be opened here in the last week of May.

The main objectives of the institute are to create awareness about IT-related legal issues among the IT and IT-enabled services industry, legal professionals, judicial officers, lawmakers, enforcement agencies, students of management and general law and individuals involved in such activities.

It will also create opportunities for study and research in all aspects of cyber laws and provide consultancy services.

Full-fledged institution

It also plans to organise short-duration seminars, workshops and lectures at various places and establish a full-fledged institution with infrastructure for research facilities and training.

The founder trustees of the institute are B.K. Somasekhara, retired judge of the Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh High Courts; N. Vidyashankar, legal/HR management consultant and former manager, Reserve Bank of India; Na. Vidyashankar, e-business, e-banking, and cyber law consultant, Chennai; S. Rajashekaraiah, former Vice-Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum; Sangita Sathyanarayana, Professor, Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore; and S.R. Raviprakash, advocate and cyber law specialist, Bangalore.

Nine-member council

The nine-member governing council of the institute has, among others, M.K. Nagaraja, Inspector-General of Police, Karnataka; J.M. Mallikarjunaiah, Principal, KLE Society's Law College; Vivekanandan of NALSAR, Hyderabad; Sachidananda, Professor of Finance and Banking, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore; and K. Sathyanarayana, Commissioner of Income Tax.
