City records 37 degrees Celsius on Monday

Raichur was the hottest in the State at 42 degrees Celsius

Bangalore: Bangalore is getting warmer by the day and on Monday the maximum temperature peaked to 37 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 23.4 degrees Celsius, the hottest day so far this year.

The average temperature was 34 degrees Celsius on Monday. It is attributed to land heating and north-westerly and northerly winds, according to officials in the Indian Meteorological Department.

The city, which is transforming itself from a garden city to a concrete jungle, has been witnessing rise in temperatures over the years. April, however, continues to be the hottest month for the city with average temperatures ranging from 33 degrees Celsius to 34 degrees Celsius.

However, the city's all-time high was in 1931 when it touched 38.9 degrees Celsius and in 1993 it was 37.8 degrees Celsius.

While Bangalore remained hot, northern stretches in Karnataka were hotter with Raichur recording the highest temperature at 42 degrees Celsius, the Department said.

Heat wave conditions prevail in northern Karnataka, Meteorological Department officials added.
