`eJurix' provides database of court rulings

New Delhi , May 4

Spectrum Business Support Ltd, a provider of computerised law information solutions, has launched a Web and PDA-enabled law information retrieval service `eJurix', that would allow law professionals to electronically search through over 2,50,000 judgments of the Supreme Court, various High Courts and tribunals.

"The service is targeted at lawyers, chartered accountants, company secretaries, Government departments (CBDT, CBEC amongst others) as well as large companies," Mr D.B. Modak, Managing Director of Spectrum Business Support Ltd, said at a conference here.

The service entails a comprehensive database of full text judgments of quasi-judicial bodies, High Courts and the Supreme Court from 1950 up as well as basic information - Acts, Rules and regulations, and Notifications and circulars issued by the Law enforcement agencies.

It provides the users with current status of the judgement through hyperlinks - both backward and forward as well as with other law information.

"eJurix gives the user the freedom to decide whether the case is relevant by providing context specific search right within the text of the judgment.

"It also offers personalisation by allowing users to store his or her expertise and search them in consonance with the search on the database. The results can be printed in a tamper-proof format," he said.

The company, so far provided the offline version of these services where information was stored in CDs and DVDs and updated to users every quarter.

The services are priced at about Rs 5,000 for the first three months for unlimited usage as an introductory offer, he said adding that the company would also attempt to pursue its 10,000 offline users to go online.

To avail himself of the service, the user would have to go to the company's Web site and type in the login and password, in order to gain access to the database, which covers over 1.2 million pages.
