Cricket camp concludes

PERIAKULAM: A 15 days Tamil Nadu Cricket Association's (TNCA) under-17 coaching camp for 30 youngsters from all the Districts of Tamil Nadu came to an end here on Thursday.

Former Ranji players Jaffer Asique Ali of Erode and T. Devendrakumar of Dindigul were the two coaches in charge of the camp and Sathish Kumar of Chennai was the fitness trainer.

"Thirty promising youngsters attended the camp. They were given extensive training in cricket skills with due emphasis on fitness training. The visits to the camp often by N.R. Manivannan, a former cricketer and president of the Theni District Cricket Association, which organised the camp, was a good encouragement to the participants and for the success of the camp,'' Ali said.

Besides training, matches were conducted and an umpires examination was held.

The awards: Best batsman: Venkata Vasan (Thiruvallur). Best bowler: Kiran Prasad (Erode). Best all-rounder: Manoraj (Thiruvallur). Fittest player in the camp: Sathiaraj (Ramanathapuram). Best umpire: Amith singh (Salem).
