Irrigation Minister to meet Raman Singh

HYDERABAD: In a bid to resolve the inter-State issues relating to Polavaram and Inchampally projects, Major Irrigation Minister P. Lakshmaiah will meet Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh and other officials at Raipur on May 10 and 11.

The Minister said here on Sunday that he was hopeful of receiving clearances for the Polavaram project from the Union Ministries of Forests and Tribal Affairs in the next two to three months. - Special Correspondent

Villagers boycott

Praja Patham

Sangareddy: Villagers of Pothareddypet of Dubbaka mandal boycotted the Praja Patham programme on Sunday protesting against three hours of power supply for agricultural needs. They even staged a rasta roko on the Ramayampet-Siddipet road, blocking traffic for more than half an hour. They relented only after Siddipet RDO Dayanand assured sufficient supply to the village. - Staff Reporter

Tributes paid to jawan

VISAKHAPATNAM: Floral tributes were paid to the mortal remains of Army jawan Gondesi Srinivasa Reddy on its arrival at the Naval Air Station, INS Dega, here on Sunday. The jawan, belonging to 16 Madras Regiment, while on observation duty at Siachen on May 4, slipped down an ice wall and was injured. He later succumbed to his injuries at a military hospital. He is survived by mother, wife and a daughter. - Staff Reporter

Junior lecturers' boycott threat

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Government Junior Lecturers' Association has threatened to boycott the Intermediate advanced supplementary examination, pressing for steps to protect the interest of Government teachers.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, M.V. Gona Reddy, general secretary, criticised the Government for transfer of staff from aided to Government colleges on the pretext that students were not joining these colleges leading to their closure.

Rectify irregularities

in lift scheme: MP

HYDERABAD: Nalgonda MP and CPI Central Secretariat member S. Sudhakar Reddy has sought steps to rectify irregularities committed in effecting changes to the design of Mahatma Gandhi Lift Irrigation Project in Mahabubnagar district.

In a letter to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday, he said though the issue was brought to his notice in October and November last year, no remedial steps were taken.

on auction

HYDERABAD: The State Government has announced the sale of 10-year-old security in the form of stock through auction for an aggregate amount of Rs. 500 crores. The auction will be conducted by the Reserve Bank of India at its Mumbai office on May 11, P. HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Revenue Services Association has condemned the behaviour of MLAs and an MP towards Mahabubnagar Collector in his office on May 5.

BCs told to fight for rights

ANANTAPUR: State president of 93 BC Kulala Aikya Vedika K. Gnaneshwar Mudiraj on Saturday called upon the backward class communities to fight for political power as that was the only way out for their development. He alleged that the rulers of the country had been using the BCs only as a vote bank due to the disunity among the BCs. He asked the BC to fight for their rights in proportion to their population, which was about half the total population, he said. _Staff Reporter

CHIRALA : The State Government is committed to extend medicare to each and every village in the State, according to Health Minister K. Rosaiah. He was inaugurating a renovated hospital here on Sunday.

The Minister said the Government would do everything possible to make it a super-speciality hospital in the area. Mr. Rosaiah also inaugurated a primary health centre, built at a cost of Rs.23.5 lakhs at Ipurupalem. - Correspondent

Maoists' violence

ONGOLE: The CPI (M-L) New Democracy has condemned Maoists for indulging in violent, disruptive and terrorist activities in an indiscriminate manner and attacking people with weapons in Beeroni Madava village near Bayyaram of Khammam district last night.

CPI (M-L) secretary Chittipati Venkateswarlu, in a press statement here on Sunday, said that the Maoists had invited Ashok dalam of New Democracy for talks at Illendu on March 15 and attacked them in a planned manner, seized their weapons and abused them. The local people resented this. To cover up this heinous act, Mr. Venkateswarlu said that the Maoists had weaved a story that there was resentment among people against New Democracy and so they seized their weapons and handed them over to Maoists.

APRJC entrance

Kakinada: The entrance examination for the Andhra Pradesh Residential Junior Colleges (APRJC-2006) was conducted in all the nine centres here on Sunday. As against the total of 2,349 candidates, 95 per cent took the test. -
