Bangalore: Students of the Government School-cum-Pre-University College at Munireddypalya in J.C. Nagar here have reason to celebrate. The school, which had a dilapidated building and lacked basic facilities, has been given a facelift by Rotary Bangalore Brigades. The renovated school was inaugurated by the former Minister Roshan Baig on Sunday.

Speaking at the function, Mr. Baig asked the Rotary Club to consider sponsoring a burns ward in Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital.

    Burns ward

Bangalore had only one burns ward in the government sector, which was located in the Victoria Hospital and there was a dire need for another one, he said.

It was not only elite schools that produced bright students. Many noted personalities were educated in government schools, he said.

The renovation of the school and pre-university college, taken up by Rotary Bangalore Brigades, included replacing of the roofs of buildings with GI sheets, painting the four blocks, providing benches for all the classrooms, giving electricity connection to classrooms and repairing toilets. Two water tanks for providing drinking water were installed.

    Funding

The project was executed at a cost of Rs. 2.5 lakh. Apart from Rotary Bangalore Brigades, the project was funded by Nanjundaiah, a former student of the school, and Sainik Lodge.

Venkat Subramaniam, president, and Akshai Mallappa, secretary, of the club were present at the function.
