BANGALORE: An armed gang of dacoits struck at a private security guard's house in HAL police station limits in the early hours of Monday and made away with gold ornaments, silver articles and other valuables, all worth Rs. 1 lakh. Police said the incident took place around 4 a.m. at Shivaputrappa's house in Manjunatha Layout in Munekolalu. Eight dacoits entered the house by breaking open the main door with crowbars. They threatened Shivaputrappa's wife, Usha, and daughter, Chandrika (6), and robbed them of their jewellery. They ransacked a cupboard and looted gold and silver ornaments, the police said. Shivaputrappa, who works as a guard at a hotel on Airport Road, was away on duty. The dacoits, who had covered their faces, were speaking Kannada, Telugu and Hindi, the police said. The HAL police have registered a case.
Two killed
Two persons, including a student, were killed in separate road accidents in the city since Sunday night. Praveen (19), a first year B.Com student, was killed after a car hit his motorcycle on 66th Cross, 5th Block, Rajajinagar, around 10.30 p.m. on Sunday. A native of Bhadravathi in Shimoga district, Praveen was living with his brother Pradeep in 5th Block, Rajajinagar, the police said. The Magadi Road traffic police have registered a case. In the other incident, K. Dhanpal (38) was killed after a multi-utility vehicle rammed his motorcycle on 3rd Cross, 4th Main, Chamarajpet, around 8.30 a.m. on Monday. Dhanpal was a resident of K.P. Agrahara. The Central traffic police have registered a case.
Suicide
A jilted lover allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his room in Hanumanthanagar police station limits on Sunday night. The police gave his name as Narayanaswamy (23) of Andhra Pradesh. He was working in a dentistry laboratory in Sunkenahalli here. He and his two colleagues were lived in a room adjacent to the laboratory, the police said.
