Back Height of protest

ON DAM ISSUE: The Narmada Bachao Andolan leader, Ms Medha Patkar (extreme left), and the Booker Prize winner, Ms Arundhati Roy (extreme right), with activists of the andolan at a demonstration against the Government in front of the Supreme Court. The activists demanded that the height of the Sardar Sarovar Dam should not be raised and that villagers displaced by the construction of the dam should be rehabilitated. The Supreme Court ruled on May 8 that work on the dam should continue.
