Justice in a flat world

I was delighted to read T.K. Viswanathan's piece "Ensuring justice in a flat world" (May 9 Op-Ed page). His clarion call for the next step forward in the path of human progress — from jurisprudence (mere speculation about the law) to jurimetrics (scientific investigation of legal problems) — needs the widest publicity among lawyers and judges. The judiciary has taken a front seat in our constitutional path of progress, and Mr. Viswanathan's reminder that judges have to be "enlightened and well informed in diverse fields" comes not a day too late.
