NEW DELHI: Two lift irrigation projects Mahatma Gandhi (Kalwakurthy) in Mahboobnagar district and Sripadasagar (Yellampally) in Karimnagar district have been given clearance by the Union Environment and Forests Ministry. Announcing this, Andhra Pradesh Government special representative Mallu Ravi said the Kalwakurthy project was estimated to cost Rs. 3000 crore and would provide irrigation to 3.40 lakh acres in the drought-prone and backward district of Mahboobnagar. Dr. Ravi said that the Sripada Sagar Project was expected to utilise 58 tmc of Godavari water and is estimated to cost Rs. 4,589 crore. He said the project wouldl irrigate 4.5 lakh acres in Karimnagar and Medak districts in the drought-prone Telangana region and also provide 6.5 tmc of water to the National Thermal Power Corporation.
