Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: Water from a fishpond managed by a cooperative society at Madigubba village in Atmakur mandal was allegedly let out by unidentified persons. In the process, all the fish raised in the pond died causing financial loss of about Rs. 5 lakhs to the society.

According to president of the society Akkulanna, a sluice of the pond was breached intentionally by unidentified persons on Tuesday evening. The society had released about four lakh seed fish six months ago and the grown up fish were about to be marketed. As the water level in the pond was already poor the fish were struggling to survive in the simmering heat. The breach drained out water completely killing the fish. The society has 73 members and about 300 families were dependent on the fish being raised in the pond.
