Bangalore: The University of Luton, United Kingdom, and the Surana College here have entered into a collaboration through which Indian students studying in the Bangalore-based college will be able to pursue their studies in Luton.

The regional representative office of the University of Luton at the Surana College was launched here on Wednesday by Ramachandra Gowda, Minister for Planning, Small Savings and Science and Technology.

Under this programme, undergraduate students taking up business management and psychology courses in the Surana College can study for two years in the college and pursue the third year of the course in Luton.

According to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two institutions, they may also collaborate in the area of research and training, teaching activities, staff and student exchange and curriculum development projects.

Mr. Ramachandra Gowda said that Bangalore was now a knowledge hub apart from being an IT hub, and institutions from abroad were now looking at the city to collaborate in the area of knowledge sharing.

Steve Pettitt, deputy vice-chancellor, University of Luton, said the university was providing socially inclusive and quality education. "We have an experience of various cultures since students of different nationalities study at the institution," he added.

However, he said, it was a "one-way traffic."

British students who wanted to come out of their country and study in India were not able to do so, he added.
