CHENNAI: District Elections Officer and Corporation Commissioner M.P. Vijayakumar on Wednesday thanked all staff involved in election work for a job well done. Talking to a cross section of the staffers at Ripon Buildings, Mr. Vijayakumar also extended his thanks to all central and state government staff who had performed election duty on May 8 in the 2,425 polling stations in the city's 14 Assembly constituencies. Corporation Joint Commissioners Shiv Das Meena, G. Sundaramurthi, K. Manivasan, District Revenue Officer (Election) M. Uthirasamy, Revenue Department officials and heads of departments were present. Chennai Corporation was the nodal agency that conducted elections in the city's 14 Assembly constituencies. The civic agency trained more than 12,500 central and state government staff, allotted duties for them, made arrangements at the polling stations, set up squads to repair and replace electronic voting machines on polling day and cleaned and restored the polling stations after polling was over. It is also in charge of the counting centres where results would be announced tomorrow.
