HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh United Teachers' Federation (APUTF) has asked the Government to ensure that counselling procedure was followed strictly in State-wide transfer and promotion of teachers. At a press conference here on Thursday, its president Ch. Subhash Chandra Bose said they had reason to believe that teachers who wanted postings of choice were moving heaven and earth and getting recommendation letters from Ministers and MLAs. The president said they feared that in most cases, places of choice were being filled with teachers who could muster political influence, leaving open for counselling only those places that many teachers would not opt for. He said only if the transfer/promotion process was completed at the earliest could this trend be countered. If Government did not take steps to counter the designs of people with political clout in getting postings of their choice, the APUTF would not hesitate to launch a State-wide agitation, Mr. Bose said. Mr. Bose and Mr. Narayana demanded that the Government take steps to fill up vacant teachers' posts in municipal and aided schools.
